Adult German Cockroach (Orthoptera: Blattellidae) Feeding and Drinking Behavior as a Function of Density and Harborage-to-resource Distance

چکیده
Environ.Entomol.15: 198-204 (1986) ABSTRACT There was an effect of harborage-to-resource distance but no main effect of density on the frequency of feeding and drinking activity of adult Blattella germantca, videotaped continuously for 96 h. Feeding and drinking die! periodicity was more pronounced when the resource was placed further from the harborage with activity peaking ca. 2 h into scotophase and declining at the onset of photophase. Nongravid females and males fed and drank more often than gravid females, with a high percentage of females carrying oothecae never feeding or drinking during the recording period.

Detection of malathion and chlorpyrifos resistance mechanism in German cockroaches (Blattella germanica, Insecta: Blattodea: Blattellidae) using piperonyl butoxide and tributyl phosphorotrithioate
Introduction: German cockroach (Blattella germanica, Insecta: Blattodea: Blattellidae) is considered one of the most common household pests which can transfer pathogenic agents and also cause allergic reactions. Frequent and uncontrolled spraying caused resistance in German cockroach to insecticides. In this study we aimed, to determine the malathion and chlorpyrifos resistance mechanism ...

Ann. Entomol. Soc. Am. 81(3): 432-436 (1988) ABSTRACT The Asian cockroach, Blattella asahinai Mizukubo, a close relative of the German cockroach, B. germanica (L.), has been discovered in over 900 km from Tampa to Lakeland, Fla., and is prevalent in citrus groves, wooded areas, lawns, and homes. Differentiation of the two species is best accomplished by the diagnostic behavior of the Asian cock...

Introduction: Application of insecticidal baits is one of the most common and effective strategies for controlling German cockroach, (Blattella germanica L.) The current study was designed to investigate the susceptibility level of German cockroach to fipronil and imidacloprid gel baits in laboratory situation and to recommend its usage in Iran. Methods: This experimental study was conducted o...
متن کاملHydramethylnon uptake by Blattella germanica (Orthoptera: Blattellidae) by coprophagy.
Blattella germanica (L.) that were fed hydramethylnon bait produced residues that were toxic to exposed conspecifics. Insecticidal activity was traced to the feces of treated insects by feeding radiolabeled material, where approximately 50% of the recovered radioactivity was unmetabolized parent compound. Ingestion of toxicant-laden feces by all life stages was evident, but the effect of this b...

Control of adult roaches is usually not problematic as those life cycle stages are actively exploring the habitat for food sources. Nymphs are less mobile and therefore less likely to access a bait spot directly. Natural occurring populations of German cockroach (Blattella germanica L.) show a relatively constant ratio of nymphs in the total population of 0.6, which is largely unaffected by the...
